Scarred
Alright, listen. Scarred is dark dark. Like, if you’re expecting a softened fairytale vibe, this is not that. Emily McIntire takes the bones of the story and then drags it straight into morally questionable territory, and honestly… I loved that about it.
The MMC is ruthless and emotionally damaged, and the book does not try to excuse him or make him suddenly good. You’re watching someone who is already broken make choices that are bad, messy, and sometimes hard to stomach. And somehow, you still stay invested. That’s the hook.
What worked for me is how intense the tension is. The romance feels dangerous, not comforting. There’s obsession, power imbalance, and a lot of internal conflict. It’s one of those reads where you keep thinking, “This is so wrong,” while also needing to know what happens next.
If you like dark fairytale retellings that lean villain over hero and aren’t afraid to be uncomfortable, Scarred is absolutely worth picking up. Just go in knowing this is not a cozy retelling. It’s twisted, heavy, and meant to be.
