The 48 Laws of Power

Okay, first thing to know is this is not a feel good, motivational book. This book is blunt. Sometimes uncomfortable. And very honest about how power actually works, not how we wish it worked.

Each chapter is basically a lesson about influence, control, and human behavior, backed up with historical stories and examples. Some laws will make you nod like yeah that’s true, and others will make you pause and go… that feels kind of messed up. And that’s where most of the conversation around this book comes from.

You don’t read this straight through like a novel. It’s more of a dip in, think about it, put it down kind of book. I found myself reflecting on workplaces, relationships, and situations I’ve been in and suddenly seeing things a little differently. Not necessarily wanting to use every law, but understanding why people do what they do.

It’s definitely not for everyone. If you’re looking for kindness and encouragement, this isn’t that. But if you’re curious about power dynamics, strategy, and the less pretty side of ambition, it’s interesting and eye opening.

I’d say read it with a critical mind. Take what resonates, leave what doesn’t. Even if you don’t agree with everything, it sparks a lot of thought and conversation, which is probably why it’s stayed so popular for so long.
