The Housemaid is Watching

So… it’s fine. But it didn’t wow me.

This one leans hard into paranoia. You’re constantly waiting for something bad to happen, and that uneasy feeling is definitely there the whole time. I’ll give it that. Freida McFadden knows how to keep things tense and easy to read, so I flew through it pretty quickly.

That said, it’s quieter than the earlier books, and for me, the trope is starting to feel a little worn out. A lot of the beats felt familiar, and instead of being shocked, I found myself predicting where things were headed. I stayed interested, but not fully hooked.

It’s not bad at all, just not my favorite in the series. If you love the Housemaid universe and enjoy that constant “something’s wrong here” vibe, you’ll probably still have a good time. I just finished it feeling like… okay, I’ve kind of seen this before.

Worth reading if you’re already invested, but if you’re expecting a big standout moment or a wild twist, this one might feel a little underwhelming.
